This team
has some very good winning
history. Captain George
Roberts is fishing his
2nd 38' Fountain boat.
His son, Blake, has
several titles to his
credit: SKA Jr. Angler,
Divisional Runner-Up
2001 & 2002, and
several Division Winnings
from 2001-Present. Blake
also qualified for the
WBS Grand Championship
in Cabo, San Lucas in
2003. He won the WBS
Gulf Division in 2004
and top 5 finishes from
2003-2005. His most
recent finish was the
WBS Grand Championship
Runner-Up in Los Suanos,
Costa Rica. "Not
bad for an 18 year old!"
Smooth
Ride's legendary co-captain
is Clayton Kirby, employed
by Fountain Powerboats
in 1986 to assist in
the development of their
fish boat line. Clayton
is presently, Fountain's
Florida Sales Manager.
Clayton is one of the
pioneer's of light tackle
live bait fishing. He
is a charter member
of the SKA, since its
inception in 1991. Clayton
has over 25 first place
tournament win's to
his credit, including;
his first event entering,
Calico Jacks' KMT in
1976. Other major wins
include: The Greater
Jacksonville Kingfish
Tournament's in 1983
& 1990, The Greater
Jacksonville Kingfish
Tournament VIP in both
1985 & 1989, and
The Arthur Smith King
Tournament in 1989.
Clayton won the Morehead
City leg of the SKA
pro event in 1999 and
has won salt water fishing's
most coveted title,
SKA's Angler of the
Year, in both 1991 &
1997. Clayton was one
of the co-founders of
Fountain's fishing team
concept, and has over
50 top 5 finishes to
his credit.
George
Roberts and Clayton
Kirby decided to team
up for the 2005 SKA
Pro season with Tommy
Meyers from George's
team and Rick Stoker
from Clayton's team
to make this "TEAM"
one to watch for the
upcoming 2006 season.
This team was the top
Fountain/Mercury winner
on the Pro tour for
2005. As you can see
from the road on the
boat, George is in the
road paving business
and considers his roads
and boat to have a "SMOOTH
RIDE!"
