Team
Fountain Wins Again
in New York
September 8,
2003, Washington, NC:
Against what is arguably
the most spectacular
backdrop in offshore
racing, the Manhattan
skyline, team Fountain
lead the way in Super
V and Manufacturers
2.
After
a rough season, Team
Instigator, with Joe
Sgro and Peter Meyer,
captured their first
victory of the year
in their 40' Mercury
powered Fountain. The
multiple National and
World Champion team
ran a spectacular race
holding off the 2nd
place Fountain Shockwave,
with Ben Robertson and
Wyatt Fountain at the
controls. Although Shockwave,
also a 40' Mercury powered
Fountain, has not been
able to get to the checkered
flag all season, they
have amassed a string
of podium finishes that
puts them in great position
in the National pointschase.
The Fountain fleet finishedoff
with the 2002 Championship
team Firewater, piloted
by Rich Wyatt and Bob
Oliver, in the 4th place
position, followed by
team Muscle, with Dave
Branch and Bruce Kruglick.
In
Manufacturers 2, the
Rodriquez Group piloted
their 38' Fountain Poker
Run Edition to victory,
essentially securing
the Superboat International
Championship for the
F2-76 Fountain. This
international team from
France, featuring Serge
Allegre' and Michel
Karsenti at the controls
assumed the F2-76 number
running under the team
Fountain banner with
their Mercury 525EFI
powered boat. Their
run in the Hudson River
secures them their first
victory of the season.
2nd place in the Manufacturers
2 class went to the
winners from the previous
race in Orange Beach;
team Fountain-Mercury,
with Ben Robertson Jr.
and Bob Carter. Bob
Carter, father of singing
star Nick Carter of
the Backstreet Boys,
is no stranger to offshore
competition. His initial
entry into offshore
racing saw his 40' Mercury
powered Super-V capture
both the World and National
titles in APBA 2002
offshore competition.
After being sidelined
at the start of the
2002 racing season with
a back injury, he watched
as his team, Nick Carter
Racing, went on to capture
both titles in their
debut season.
