Fountain
Sends a "Shockwave"
Through Deerfield Beach
November 10,
2003, Washington, NC;
Fountain Powerboats
swept all three races
of the SBI World Championships
in Deerfield Beach,
FL, taking 3 consecutive
1st place finishes in
Super V, as well as
securing the second
and third place positions
for the 3 race event.
Rich Tropoli,
owner of Rio Roses'
Shockwave elected to
make another crew change
for the world championships,
substituting himself
and Ben Robertson for
Wyatt Fountain and Jeff
Harris. The APBA Hall
of Champions team captured
World and National titles
in the 40' Fountain
Super V in 2001, under
the "Zynetix"
moniker. The magic was
clearly still in the
team as they propelled
the boat to a flawless
victory in the 1st race,
defeating Firewater,
another 40' by over
40 seconds. The win
marked the first win
of the year for the
boat.
The 2nd
race saw the return
of Ben Robertson to
the boat, but this time
he moved over to the
driver's seat with Jeff
Harris on the throttles.
The boat scored it's
second win in a row,
despite a broken trim
ram that caused the
port drive to stick
in the down position,
allowing Firewater,
with Bob Oliver and
Rich Wyatt to close
the gap to within 4-seconds
of the Rio Roses' Shockwave.
Sunday's
third and final race
again saw Jeff Harris
and Ben Robertson pilot
the 40' Fountain Rio
Roses' "Shockwave"
to a commanding victory
over the Fountain dominated
fleet, making it a clean
sweep of the Superboat
International World
Championships, and yet
another world title
for throttleman Harris.
Mechanical gremlins
got Firewater on Sunday
causing them to finish
down on power, but still
running 3rd to Team
Muscle with Dave Branch
and Bruce Kruglick in
their 40' Fountain.
The 2nd place finish
for Team Muscle, combined
with their 2 third place
finishes, secured them
a third place overall,
while two second place
and one third place
finish for Firewater
was enough for them
to secure second place
overall for the event,
giving Fountain all
three podium positions
for the Deerfield Beach
event.
In Manufacturers
2, Fountain Captured
the world title with
team Rodriquez Group
in their 38' Fountain
Poker Run Edition. Their
3 straight victories
gave Michel Karsenti
and Serge Allegre' their
first world championship
victory. The local team
of Brett Furshman and
Todd Eason, in their
38' Fountain Poker Run
Edition Miccosukee Indian
Gaming secured second
place overall, with
2 second place finishes.
Frank
Sarro and Scott O'Connor
rounded out the Fountain
sweep of the top v-bottom
classes, in their 29'
Fountain Xtreme Marine.
Fountain
Powerboats is proved
of all of the Fountain
Racing teams for their
stellar performance
throughout the 2003
Super Boat International
racing season.
