Yanmar
Powered Fountain 48EC
Boasts Speed and Fuel
Economy
All
too often, cruisers
have to choose between
the performance and
luxury of their boats.
Equipped with triple
engines from Yanmar,
the Fountain 48EC combines
the two, giving enthusiasts
a lavish ride with incredible
fuel efficiency at high
speeds.
Producing a powerful
480 hp each, the Yanmar
6LY3-ETP engines turn
stainless steel 6-blade
propellers coupled to
surface drives. Weighing
significantly less than
other engines in the
same horsepower range,
the in-line six-cylinder
diesel, surface drive
and marine gear package
total approximately
1,900 lbs. each.
Long
distance runs are possible
with the express cruiser's
460 gallon fuel capacity.
In a recent test, the
48-footer averaged over
1 mpg while cruising
between 33.5 mph and
54.7 mph @ 2,000 rpm
to 2,800 rpm. The boat
had a top speed of 65.6
mph @ 3,390 rpm and
accelerated from idle
to plane in 9 seconds
flat. It was tested
with front and side
curtains to simulate
a fully-loaded craft.
Yanmar
distributor Mack Boring
& Parts Co. supplied
the engines for this
installation. "The
Fountain 48EC has exceptional
maneuverability and
drives unbelievably
well," said Jack
Law, marine sales representative
for Mack Boring. "Its
extremely fast cruise
speed and economy of
operation set it apart
from the competition."
The
6LY3-ETP has the dimensions
of a competitor's 300
hp engine. With a superior
power-to-weight ratio,
it is the lightest and
most compact engine
in its class.
The
engine complies with
EPA Tier 2 regulations.
Its high pressure, torque-inducing,
electronic governing
fuel delivery system
offers improved fuel
consumption, reduced
noise at idle and decreased
fuel odor and smoke.
The electronic control
also provides constant
power regulation, synchronizes
engine speeds and monitors
all critical engine
information.
